Edyth Faye Edwards
Age 78
July 19, 1945 – August 15, 2023
A mother’s love is always unconditional, never wavers, and is everlasting. TL Dawson
Edyth Faye Edwards received her wings on Tuesday, August 15, 2023. She was born in New Albany, Indiana to Bethel Martin and Edward Griffith. She grew up in the Indianapolis area, then moved as a young woman to California following the birth of her first child, Tina. In California, she had her second child, Tonia, and later moved to St. Louis, where she had her two youngest children, Tamaria and Richard. She then moved to Arkansas, living in the Hot Springs, Malvern, and Camden areas. While living in Camden, she married again and raised her husband’s grandson, Marquis, in her home.
She devoted 30 + years of public service to the Arkansas Department of Health and Human Services and was a member and officer for the Arkansas State Employees Association. She retired from state service and moved to be closer to her family in Ohio, where she lived out the remainder of her life. She was blessed to spend these years living near two of her daughters and all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Edyth loved NASCAR, Arkansas Razorback and Pittsburg Steelers football, and socializing at the Hilliard Moose Lodge, in which she was a lifetime member. She also volunteered for projects and causes that were close to her heart, such as the Daily Needs Assistance of Plain City and the Ohio Food Bank. Edyth practiced her Christian faith every day and attended the Journey Community Church of Plain City. She had a caring heart, providing loving support and a regular stern word of correction to her family and friends – when needed and sometimes not. She could “throw down” in the kitchen as well and was best known for delicious greens and “hot water” cornbread.
She is predeceased by her parents; her sisters: Jane Evaline and Ruthanne Martin; her husband Levester “Mississippi Shorty” Edwards; her former husband Richard Norman, Sr.; and her son Richard Norman, Jr.
She is survived by her daughters: Tina Dawson (Herb), Tonia Norman, and Tamaria Carlson (Jamie); her brothers: Paul Martin (Lee), Bill Martin (Connie), and Richard Snow (Linda); her grandchildren: Marquis Harris (Cambra Gonzales), Cristina Dawson, Ashley Dawson, A.J. Dawson, Jimi Carlson (Tori), and Patrick Carlson; many great grandchildren, and numerous beloved friends.
Following cremation by Kennedy Life Celebration Services Funeral Home of London, Ohio, the family will host a celebration of life service at the Carlson residence in Plain City, Ohio on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at 4 pm. Text Tamaria Carlson at 614-571-4423 for information. The family will also host a later remembrance service in Camden, Arkansas and will scatter her ashes near the grave of her late husband, Levester Edwards. They will notify friends and family when those arrangements are finalized. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes your donation in memory of Edyth Edwards to Daily Needs Assistance or the Wounded Warrior Project.
